Rick Rader We were with the group of six couples from the Roanoke, Virginia, area (remind Mario as that is the name on his Tshirt that I gave him-he may want to know that someday) that were there last Thursday. We all had a wonderful time, even with, maybe because of, the rain. My wife had a massage while I was on the snorkel excursion-she hoped it would be over before I returned!--, the lunch was delightful and the drinks were fine, as well. We all enjoyed the kayaks, the beach beds, the Salsa music and dancing. We will surely suggest this trip to anyone we encounter that is considering a trip to your beautiful city as a "must do" event. Our regards to Santo and all the others. What a wonderful day!! Rick Rader Troutville, Virginia
Mike Dawn Provance We were at Uvas Jan 19th. It was our last stop and we really enjoyed our day here. We were suppose to have thunderstorms all day and when we arrived in Cozumel we were a little concerned that it would be the truth. BUT the clouds started to lighten and by the time we were meeting Carmen we were good to go! There were 4 of us and we got off the ship and into a taxi in record time, we were so excited to check out Uvas. The taxi was $10 for all of us. When we got there, one other couple was there. We claimed our spot right in the front row and one of the beach beds. We went to order a Bloody Mary and were told that we had to complete our water adventures before we drank, which is a smart idea Just something to remember if you have the all-inclusive packages. Our friends had done the package 1 so they got ready to kayak, while DH and I relaxed and took the beauty in. There kayak tour was only them and their guide, Mario, they said they had a great time. They were more into seeing how fast they could kayak and said they did not see many fish until they dumped bait into the water and all the fish came to eat! But they said they saw a lot of the underwater world and would do it again. They were tired by they time they came back. The plan was to have them kayak, come back, relax and then in the afternoon we would snorkel all together (we had package 3) but due to the no drinking rule, we headed out to snorkel right away. This actually benifited us because it was too early for the cruise groups to be there and once again it was just the four of us and Mario! At first the snorkeling was not that great, you could see a few fish but mostly the sandy bottom. As we moved around Mario showed us some coral areas and there would be a ton of fish hiding in it (hard to photograph) We were probably not Mario's favorite group. We did not follow him very well and I know by the time we were back at the beach we had exceded our 45 min. The boys got out with Mario but my friend and I satyed in longer and snorkeled in a different area and I have to say I was very impressed. We saw squid, crabs, along with the schools of fish. I have snorkeled several times and I will say it was one of my favorite snorkeling experiences. Trunk Bay in St John's was the only other shore snorkeling I have done and this was much better. After snorkeling we layed on the beach beds and took a little snooze. when we woke up our lunch was ready. DH had tacos, our friends had the fajaitas, and I had the fresh fillet all was wonderful. He actually had the nachos for an app. and those were amazing! The drinks were great, my favorites were the mango frozen drink and the blue paradise (think that was the name) We really never noticed the cruise tours too much, except the herd of people walking in getting their snorkel equipment or kayaks and leaving. All the staff was wonderful. Mario was a great tour guide, Pedro kept us laughing and entertained, and Santino (I think that was his name) was absolutly the best, I can't believe I might have gotten his name wrong. He waited on us all day long we never wanted for anything. We did buy same necklaces, and I am so disapointed that I did not buy more. She started packing up early so we ran over and got a few but I wish I had gone over earlier so I could have thought it through better! When she said she would be there all day we did not even think that all day ended at 3pm but when you are there early it makes sence it would! This was the best place we could have chosen and I am so glad we decided to go here (we were planning on going to PB) this was definatly more of what we wanted our trip to Cozumel to be like. The only drawback was we had such a good time that one of our friends was unable to make it to dinner that night! Thanks again for the wonderful day and I am telling anyone I know that is going to Cozumel to check you out! We definatly will go back. Now I am going to try to post a link to our pictures. http://s153.photobucket.com/albums/s...mel%201-19-07/
Laura Hernandez & Friends Just got back from my cruise. I went to Playa UVas on 1/25/2007.. There were 6 ships in port that day! There were 6 people who came all of us are between (22 yrs. old--26 yr old.) We all got the Beach Pass 1 for $59.00 and it was well worth the $!! Upon arrival I was greeted by Carmen. She was wonderful! (Hi Carmen!) We got there at 9:00 a.m. and we were the only ones there! Carmen explained to us that the port was closed and that right now the activities were closed, and that we had to wait. We all said that was find we would wait to see what happens. The day that we arrived there was very windy. It rained early in the morning before we got off the ship. We went down to the beach to check it out and the ocean/beach is amazing! We were greeted by Raphael..(i think?) who promptly took our drink orders and brought my fiance and me a shot of tequila! I also met Eduardo! Hola Eduardo!!! Muchas gracias por todo! We had some more drinks and we went to check out the store to buy some water shoes. But we found out that they didn't have any there. I spoke with Carmen and told her that they didn't have any water shoes. She thought that they did but they didn't have any. She then asked me if I knew how to drive a motorcycle and I said "no, but my fiance does." She let my fiance and me drive her motorcycle into downtown Cozumel to buy our group some water shoes! It was FUN!! It took us awhile and we finally arrived back to Playa Uvas. When we got back Carmen told us that the port was open and we can do our activites. We did our Kayak first and it was fun! We saw big fish! lol..ahhh I was amazed how the water was soo clear! Very salty too! After kayaking we took a break and then we went snorkeling. That WAS AMAZING!! I WANT TO GO BACK AND DO IT AGAIN! LOL Again, I was surprised to see that the water was so clear. Our group saw tons of fish. I saw a couple of small fishies too and coral too. Our guide was pulling two people! He is a very strong man! When snorkeling was over we had our lunch which was fajitas(they were great!) We drank some more and we checked out the glass fusion jewelery that this lady sells. I got 2 necklaces one pair of earings...I love them! She makes all of these necklaces, key chains, earings, ashtrays, etc by hand! Very nice lady. Another couple got some henna tattoos for $10.00! We had some more drinks and it was time for us to leave. I highly recommend Playa Uvas to anyone. Their service is outstanding! Our waiter made sure we were happy with what we got and made sure we had our refills! Everyone at Playa Uvas greeted us and were were very nice to us. Their restrooms are kept well maintained which is very important to me! Their beach was very clean. The entrance to the beach is kinda rocky but I saw an area that was not rocky, and if you wanted to you could walk into the ocean through that entrance. My crew and me felt like queens and kings that day. Even though there were other people there we felt like the only ones there! We all enjoyed Playa Uvas and I can't wait to go back!
Marybeth Ledford My husband and I visited with you last week when our NCL cruise was in port. We took your clear kayak and snorkel trip with a group from our ship. Everything about our visit was perfect. Christian met us at the port, explained our day and took care of everything. We had the most wonderful time with both the kayaking and the snorkeling!!! The real icing on the cake, was finding out that you had a massage therapist right on the beach! There are not enough words to describe how wonderful Luz Ortiz is!!!! We have never had a better massage in our lives and we get massage therapy at home every week. She was very professional, very kind and very good. We wanted to bring her home with us. Thank you so much for such a great day. All of the people who worked that day were exceptionally kind and went out of their way to be helpful. We can’t wait to come back!
Diane Vollrath & friends our whole group had a wonderful day at Playa Uvas last Thurs. Jan.11th. Even tho there were 9 ships in port that day, we had no trouble getting a taxi to Playa. They charged us $20 for a van, there were 6 of us. Took just a few minutes to get there and we were one of the first groups. Carmen was expecting us and checked us all in then showed us around and introduced us to the wait staff and snorkel guides. We decided to snorkel around 1030 and joined another group. You walk down the beach quite a distance then enter the water to snorkel. If you have your own tube, take it. Theirs are the plain no purge type. You will want water shoes as the shore is quite rocky. They take your shoes and sunglasses and whatever else you wear on your trek down the beach and put them into a plastic bag and into the kayak that one of the guides follows in. You get them back when you return. One guide was in the water with us and one in the kayak which made it easy for them to keep track of all of us, which is great for novice snorkelers. I kept going further out then the rest following fish and the guide made me return to the group, which I understand perfectly. Most of my group snorkeled on our own a couple more times while we were there. I saw lots of fish and some barracuda. Luckily no jelly fish which i heard people who went to another resort saw. Our bartender was super fantastic and really watched to see if our glass was getting low. The all inclusive is definetly the way to go. One of our group went scuba diving and says it was wonderful They even went through some caves which he had never done before. In case you are wondering, you don't have to be certified to dive in Mexico but you had to know how and do the refresher diving Padi request when you dont have the c-card. We had fajitas for lunch and they were yummy! Of all the drinks we had,the Miami Vice was our favorite. It was definetly worth our money and the best day we had on the cruise. Thanks Eduardo! and the rest of the crew at Playa Uvas!
William Maloney Thanks for the memories! Playa Uvas was one of the best parts of my recent western-Caribbean cruise. Though the clear "kayak" (really more like a canoe or coracle) was not as enchanting on the cloudy day I was there as it may have been on a sunny day, the snorkeling was all that I had hoped for. However, the chief reason I would be certain to visit Playa Uvas on any future trip to Cozumel is the people who made the whole experience such a delight! From the guy who met us at the dock and guided us at sea, to the people who helped allocate the equipment, steady us in and out of the boats, and serve refreshments--everyone was cheerful and friendly. There are many, many naturally beautiful places for outdoor adventures in the Caribbean, but very few who make their visitors feel so much at home as the people at Playa Uvas. Thank you! Megan Bonham I visited Playa Uvas on Dec/14 with my DH and three friends. Our ages range from 25-35, and we are more of a "calm" group than a "party" group. We all thoroughly enjoyed the day there. For several of us, it was the highlight of the entire trip. Carmen greeted us by name. She then proceeded to personally introduce us to each member of the staff! I could tell they were honestly grateful for our business. All five members of my group reserved the clear kayak tour and two of us (including myself) also reserved the snorkel tour. we were the first visitors to arrive at the beach. (It was a little before 9am.) We were informed that the first group of kayakers was going to be fairly large (about 30 people), so one of the guides offered to take my group on a personal tour with just the five of us! I was very impressed with this, and, of course, we took him up on his offer. We all thought the kayaks were really cool! We saw many fish (including an eel) and some nice coral. The guides intentionally took the group directly over coral and areas where fish can regularly be found. I was pleased with how much you could actually see through the kayak. (Be careful, though. There is a tendency to lean over when you see something cool - that's not a good idea when you're in a kayak!) One member of my group was having significant problems paddling, so the assistant guide hooked both kayaks together with a rope, which resulted in the guide pulling the second kayak. Immediately after kayaking, the same guide took my friend and I on our snokeling tour. I have snorkeled previously, but I would still consider myself a beginner. I don't have too many other sites to compare this to, but I was very pleased with the variety of fish we saw. I even saw a small sting ray and a couple barracudas! I've visited several locations throughout the caribbean, and this was some of the clearest water I've ever seen. As for the land facilities, everything was clean and well cared for (including the bathrooms). We loved the beach beds! Lunch was delicious, and I am a picky eater. Rafael was our server for the day, and he was wonderful! If we wanted to, we could've stayed in our chairs all day long. He brought everything to us, and he checked in with us regularly. Regarding the entrance to the water, it's true that there is not a sandy entrance. I found this to be a positive thing, though, because by the time I was in the water above my ankles, I was already seeing tropical fish. That certainly wouldn't happen at your typical sandy beach! My DH had knee surgery in September, and he was able to get in and out of the water just fine. If you plan to come with very small children, you will probably want to carry them into the water. There's rough rock where the waves hit, but after the first couple steps, there is flat rock which we had no problems walking on. I was impressed with the snorkeling directly in front of the beach area, too. As I said, you only had to take a few steps and there were fish. I certainly wouldn't let the rocks stop you from visiting this place. The beauty and the service far outweigh having to walk over a couple rocks!
Karen Saint Was at Playa Uvas on Thursday (Nov 30). We arrived around 9:00. Carmen introduced us to the staff who would be waiting on us and giving us our snorkling tour. We spent some time lying on the beach and then did the 45 minute snorkeling tour. It was fantastic!!!!! I saw four barracudas, beautiful colorful fish, and beautiful colored sea fans. Be sure to take an underwater camera. We had great shrimp nachos and shrimp quesadillas for lunch and drinks all day long. We had a great time and the place is sooooo clean with nice landscaping. They have lockers you can rent for $2.00 and a $5.00 refundable deposit. They also had a small fresh water pool. Taxi to and from the pier was $10.00 each way (that is for the taxi (up to 4 people) not each person). We had such a great time we will go there again on our next visit to Cozumel. Thanks Carmen and staff for making it such a great day!!
Anita M. Jordan My husband and I had such a great time at Playa Uvas, we only wish we could have stayed longer but we had to get back to our cruise ship! The staff was friendly, the food and drinks were great and the snorkeling and clear kayaking were so much fun, it is something we will never forget and would recommend Playa Uvas to anyone planning to go to Cozumel!
Kevin & Diane Endicott We arrived on the Carnival Conquest. We got a cab and went directly to Playa Uvas. Immediately upon arriving, I was very impressed by the condition of the property. We have been to many of the beach clubs in Cozumel, but this was by far the prettiest yet. The grounds were well kept and the employees were very friendly. We had pre-booked a two tank boat dive for me and a massage for the wife. When we arrived I realized I had left my copy of our confirmation on the boat. No problem, they did not need to see it, they had our reservation in their book. I got set up for my dive and the wife and another couple that were with us, took advantage of the massage and the facilities. There are many large white padded couch type of loungers. The beach was immaculate and very clean. My wife told me that the massage was very good. There were a lot of see thru ocean kayaks. My dive boat arrived and I went out for my two tank dive. The boat was from another dive operator (Scuba Caribe) and was well run. Our first dive was deep. I went to 96 feet along the wall. Lots of good coral at Palancar Caves. The second dive was at Paradise Reef. At the end of the second dive we observed 3 black tip reef sharks and I was able to get close enough to get some fairly nice photos of them using my dive camera. Upon return to the Beech Club, I ate some of the best food that I have had while in Cozumel. The food and drinks were very good. Overall I would highly recommend Playa Uvas as a place to enjoy the day in Cozumel. I would not recommend the ships tours to Playa Uvas as you only get to stay at the beech club for about 1-2 hours. My wife said that while I was diving several ships excursions arrived and stayed for an hour or so and then left to get back to the boat. I don’t believe that would be enough time to really enjoy the place. Go there and stay the entire day and you won’t be disappointed. I was very happy that we had booked the day at Playa Uvas and will go back there next time we visit Cozumel. kevin
Denise Love Eduardo, I just wanted to send a personal thank you for the wonderful time we had at Uvas. Everything was even more great than we could have imagined. Your staff is amazing and made us feel welcome the entire time. Carmen made sure everyone knew who we were and made sure they knew to take care of us. She also said you called to check on us, which is such a wonderful gesture that showed you truly care about your customers as much as every single person on the staff cares. We had so many people in our group and very few had ever snorkled before so it was a little scary at first but your staff promised we would be fine and we were more than fine. It was amazing and 100% safe!!! Being the one who arranged this, I was definately nervous since I felt if anyone was dissapointed it would be my fault. Well there was absolutely no disaapointment from anyone and out of 16 people that is great odds. There is so much to do that there is no room for dissapointment. Some snorkled, some drank, some played on the beach, some got tatoos, some got massages, and of course everyone ate the great food! What a great place to go!! You should be very proud of what a great place you work for! We will be back and we will tell everone we know, the only place to go is Uvas! Thank you again for everything! Denise Love
Bruce Dearing My wife and I enjoyed our visit to Playa Uva. The tour clear Kayaking Paco took us on was very nice. And in spite of some heavy rain we had a good day. We enjoyed the refreshments and personal attention. Next time we make it to Cozumel I hope to try the Discover Scuba and snorkel some more around the Uva. And it would be nice to get a massage in the sun.... Only God knows when or if that will be. Our Daughter really liked her gift of the Kiln fired glass earrings and necklace the young lady on the beach made. The Orange ones she made that my wife bought for herself matched her dress very nicely too. Adios
Jennie Meador I'm back from my vacation. I write to tell you that we were very very pleased with our Uva's experience. The service was fantastic, the food was great, and our guide Luis was wonderful !!! I want you to know and let them know. We will recommend Uva's to anyone going to Cozumel. Thank you very much for everything! Attached is a picture of us with Luis, so you know who our guide was.
MH Greene We visited Playa Uvas for several hours on Saturday, May 27th. I will post photos and a review asap. This was my 9th visit to Cozumel, so I am familiar with the available beach clubs there. My last visit was 2 months ago. Playa Uvas was a delightful departure from the clubs I've visited in the past. Gorgeous grounds, cushy teak lounge chairs with thick pads, beach beds with thick mattresses, outstanding staff who are attentive to your every need without being pushy, plenty of water related activities, great food and drinks, on-site store... this thread discusses many aspects of playa uvas http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=349494
Caroline Sullivan Hi Eduardo, I just wanted to tell you what a great time I had diving at your beach club with Edgar. While I dove my husband and two friends enjoyed your beautiful club. We hope to come back in the near future! Please thank Edgar for me again, he made my first dives very enjoyable. Thanks
