My family of 5, - myself, wife, 12, 16, and 18 year old searched for our own shore excursion prior to arriving in Cozumel, and found Playa Uvas.
I cannot say enough positive things about our experience there. The facilities were excellent, the staff was incredibly nice and accomodating. The snorkeling was wonderful - perhaps not as great as it "used to be" in Cozumel, but thanks to experienced guides, we saw beautiful corals and fish, a few rays, a scorpion fish, an eel, and just had a blast. We did the clear kayaking as well which, while not as gratifying as the snorkeling, was still lots of fun for us all.
The beach was beautiful and calm. It wasn't too crowded. We got the all inclusive package and the food was good (and there was enough to satisfy us all - even the teens) and the alcohol was non-stop for my wife and I.
All told, we highly recommend Playa Uvas for anybody looking for a place to relax and even find a little adventure on the beautiful Isla Cozumel. |

Eduardo,
I have been to Cozumel several times and was having a hard time deciding what to do this time around. I read some reviews from Cruise Critic and decided to take a chance and go somewhere new. I was told that as soon as we entered the property we would be greeted by Carmen-- and we were. She knew my name as soon as I got out of the taxi. She was so wonderful and took her time showing us around and introducing us to everyone. It really made you feel like family.
We got there early and sat on the beach and watched the clear kayaks go out. We relaxed, then got ready for our snorkeling adventure. The beach was a bit rocky, but all the kindness and helpfulness makes up for that. Our snorkeling adventure was very nice. My stepmother had a very bad experience snorkeling in Hawaii, so I wanted to show her what it was really like. It was wonderful to see all the fish, fresh water caves, stingrays and anything else our guide was able to go down and point out to us. We both had a wonderful time!
All of our drinks were included in our package, but I have to say the lunch was fabulous!!! Everything was very fresh and tasty. This was better than some of the food on the ship. Anything that we wanted we got. It was heaven on earth.
Nancy loves a massage. We actually consider her a connoisseur of massages-- she took advantage of the fact that you are doing them right on the beach. She came back and told me that was one of the best ones she had ever had.
Thanks to you and your caring staff for making our visit memorable. We will be back!
We also plan to tell anyone else going that it is a place that you can't miss in Cozumel |

Eduardo,
I just wanted to let you know what a great 2 tank dive trip I had from Uvas beach. The dive guide was very nice and helpful. I have not been diving long and he made me feel very comfortable. The reefs we dove were beautiful and we even saw two seahorses! I will be recommending Uvas to everyone! My husband spent the day on your beach while I dove and had Raul as a waiter. He was very attentive and my husband had everything he needed.
Thanks again for our great day in Cozumel! |

My spouse and I had an exquisite day @ Playa Uvas on June 22nd. We decided this would be a great way to spend some quality time in Cozumel on the beach. We were not at all disappointed.
After a short 5-10 min. taxi ride from our port we were in paradise!:) Carmen was there to immediately greet us and introduce us to the staff. Everyone was very friendly and personable.
We chose the snorkel, lunch and open bar package. What a great value. My wife also had a massage with Luz as soon as we got there. She said it was one of the best massages she has had in quite some time ($60/hour can't beat that). The massage area is located steps from the beach and was a very serene environment. Next, was our snorkel tour courtesy of Pablo. This was very exciting as well. Various schools of fish would swim along side of us as Pablo guided throughout our underwater journey.
Upon returning to shore, we had our lunch. I had chicken fajitas and my wife had the beef. Both entrees were delicious. The service provided by our server Kiko was top-notch. He was two steps ahead of us before we asked for anything. Kiko was definitely one of the many highlights of our day here. It is hard to find such eagerness to please back in the states. It was very refreshing for a change. Gracias Amigo!
After many, many margaritas and Corona's :D , we decided to head downtown. We bid the staff a fond farewell and it seemed as if we were leaving friends and family at Playa Uvas!:)
Without hesitation we will return to Playa Uvas. We would highly recommend that anyone who is sitting on the fence and not sure whether this is a great place or not, to take the plunge! You will not regret it.

On June 18, 2007, I had completed the Clear Kayak and
Snorkle Adventure and felt the need for a massage. I
booked a massage with Luz Ortez on the beach. She is
truly a gifted at the art of massage. The ocean
breeze the scents and her powerful as well as delicate
touch was perfect. Thank you.

we didn’t know what daypass to choose and Eduardo e-mailed me back all the answers to our questions, he was so patient and helpful to make our decision. At the end, we chose a package and he got back with our confirmations. Thanks a lot Eduardo!!! At last, we got to Cozmel and Playa Uvas, it was a little bit late because we were on vacation and it means waking up later than usual! We didn’t have any problem getting there and Carmen was waiting for us. She was so nice and introduced us to the staff, (there is a guy whose name is Teebo (sp?), a good looking Frenchman, he told us he had just started working in Uvas the week before!). Uvas is definitley OK and very clean; one thing you notice immediatelly is they really take care of the gardens, I really liked the place realized it is very different to other beaches I've visitedt, but specially I liked the staff who was very friendly! Teebo gave us a nice beachfront shaded bed, then Raoul, our waiter, came and asked if we wanted something alcohol free to drink before the tours, after this, we proceeded to dress up for the water. I don’t want to say more than what everybody has written, so bottom line, everything was very good! After the kayak tour we went to see Luz, and as you all have said, her massages are delicious! . As shopping goes, I also bought some very nice glass fusion necklaces for myself and some presents for friends. The food was very good and the margaritas and mango daiquiris were absolutely better!!! Suddenly, it was 3 PM, time to go back to the ship, so, we said good bye to Carmen, Raoul, Teebo and Luz and got in the cab that was waiting to take us back. The next time we go back to Cozumel we definitely visit Uvas again!!!

April 2, 2007 my 18 yr old daughter and I arrived by cruise ship in Cozmel. We had seen the ship excursions prior to sailing and had decided to go to your website to try to get a better understanding of the tour. After looking at your website (which is very user friendly with totally true to life information and pictures) I booked thru you direct and saved money from the cruise ship price.
Well the day turned out to be all we had hoped for and more. Carmen is a great welcome host. She did an outstanding job of getting us signed in and explaining our day. She is so sweet. We met our waiter and were then turned over to Pablo who guided us on our kayak tour. He was amazing and my daughter fell in love with his sweet personality and kindness, of course he is cute too!! If only we could put him and Luz in our bags and bring them home. lol
We both enjoyed the kayaks and were hungry so we hit the fajatas and they were OUTSTANDING. I love mexican food and had never had tortillas like those -- they were amazing and the guamole' was great. (Rafael is a great waiter and his recommendations for drinks are right on). After our lunch, we settled in beach chairs for some rest and refreshments. Our waiter and Pablo were so attentive it was like we were the only people there. We had booked massage time with LUZ and if you never do anything else in Cozmel...spend time with her. She's the best I've ever had. She is wonderful I don't think I can adequately explain in words but I am sincere when I say it will be the best money you spend. This whole experience from beginning to end was EXCELLENT! I only wish we could have stayed longer. Now back at home I am recommending to everyone I know who may be visiting the Cozmel area to come to UVAS and God willing, I will be back!!! Thank you for your honesty in providing a website that is truly what you say, but most importantly, thank you for a day we will never forget. Debb and Jess (Tennessee) |

My husband and I visited Playa Uvas on April 13,2007. I can’t say enough good things about our visit. The only thing I wish is that we could have stayed longer. The day went by way too fast.
When we arrived, Carmen promptly greeted us and introduced us to all of the staff. I felt as if we were family. I have read people say they were treated like royalty and I totally can relate to that feeling. We were treated like royalty too. We decided to rent one of the beach beds and I didn’t want to get up from that bed all day. We had signed up for the all inclusive package with the kayaks and snorkeling. After going on the kayaks I ended up laying down and relaxing the rest of the day. Oh, I did get up to get a massage from Luz( mi tocayo)( Luz will understand what I mean when I say mi tocayo. :) ) The massage was amazing and Luz definitely lived up to her reputation. Our whole experience with Playa Uvas was amazing. The fajitas were so tender and oh so yummy. I wish I could go back to visit right now. I would love to spend a few days at Playa Uvas. Time went by way too fast. I didn’t get to snorkel because I was too relaxed on the beach bed and didn’t want to move. I need to plan a return visit so I can do the snorkeling. Another cool thing that happened was I mentioned that I was sunburned from the previous day and our waiter made sure that the umbrella was adjusted throughout the day so I would be in the shade. I never even saw him do it. I thought my husband had moved the umbrella. I was impressed. After we returned to the ship, I bragged all night how great of a day it was. I’m sure they were getting tired of hearing me. I would highly recommend Playa Uvas to everyone visiting Cozumel.
Sincerely Yours,

Well, sadly, I'm back from my 14 days of back-to-back cruises and 2 days in Key Largo, but I bring back wonderful memories, especially my day at Play Uvas. I had booked over 7 months ago after reading all the great stuff (thanks everyone) and so I pretty much knew what to expect. My friend and I arrived around 9:30 AM and were greeted by the charming Carmen who immediately made us feel like visiting royalty; making sure to introduce all the staff to us, giving us our locker key, checking to make sure we had a nice spot picked out, our food ordered, and any other details she could think of.
After settling in, Santos was right there to take our drink order (we started with soft drinks because we didn't want any alcohol before our water sports). Originally, we had signed for the snorkeling/beach break package, but after spotting the kayaks, we asked Carmen if we could switch to them instead. Of course, she immediately handled that for us. (gosh, these folks make you feel SO SPECIAL catering to your every wish).
There were 6 ships in town that day and many ship tours snorkeling and kayaking at Playa Uvas, but the staff made sure it was never crowded and that we could go at whatever time we chose. We joined a smaller kayak group and had a wonderful time. Edwin was our guide (along with a couple of other guys) and he took us to some nice spots. It was really fun sitting in the clear kayak as the fish swam under and around us.
After kayaking, we each had a deep-tissue massage with Luz and her fingers were magic! After 45 minutes of sea kayaking, she massaged away any soreness and left us feeling like wet noodles. It was such a luxury to be massaged while listening to the water lapping at the shore and feeling the trade winds blow across my skin. Luz certainly lived up to her reputation. I've had massages at lots of spots, including Canyon Ranch and Burke Williams, but in my opinion, Luz's technique is superior to them all!
After the massages, Santos brought us lunch. Yummy chicken fajitas. We ate until we couldn't move. Then, after we felt like we could stumble back down to our lounger, we were met there by Santos with two refreshing Miami Vices. Ahhh, life just doesn't get any better.
We also visited Sol and bought some of her amazing jewelry. Lovely artisanship and very reasonable prices.
Around 4:00, we called it a day, handed out tips to all the wonderful staff members, hugged Carmen good-bye and took one of the conveniently waiting taxis back to the ship. Just writing this review brings a smile to my face. We will definitely be returning to Playa Uvas again!

Six of us, friends and family, visited Playa Uvas from the Carnival Glory on February 26. We were welcomed by Carmen, whose gracious hospitality reassured us that we had chosen wisely where to spend our day on Cozumel. We found the facilities and equipment to be clean and well-maintained, the fajitas quite yummy, and those frozen mango drinks muy delicioso. Thank you, Rafael! We were glad to have brought water shoes for the beach, found the water clear and warm, and enjoyed the snorkeling and kayaking. Carmen helped arrange, with a taxi driver, an impromptu tour around the island with a stop at the north beaches, so changed by Wilma, but still wildly beautiful. We found our day at Playa Uvas to be truly relaxing and highly recommend it to visitors seeking sun, sand, clear waters and hospitality, without floating icebergs and jet skis. |

We spent our wonderful day at Playa Uvas on Tuesday 2/27 (seems like a long time ago!) and it was everything we had hoped and much more.
We had met some friends on the ship that wanted to come along so I emailed Eduardo who promptly emailed me back and said it would be no problem to bring them. We arrived by taxi ($15 for 5 of us from Puerto Maya) about 10:00am.
We were greeted by the ever-friendly Carmen who is an absolute delight and a true asset to Uvas. Carmen escorted us over to introduce us to the bartender, to Rafael our waiter, the dive master and just about everyone else that walked by! Everyone was so friendly and they were very well staffed. Our chairs were reserved waterfront and since we got there just in time to join a snorkel group, we opted to do that first. Rafael took our towels down to our chairs for us while we stashed all the goods in the lockers.
We saw a lot of different fish during our snorkel including a large squid, moray eel, lots of colored fish and conch. The entry into the water is a bit tricky with the rocks on the shore but it's only a few feet until you get to smoother ground. Our shoes were placed in a large bag that were put on the kayak with another guy who kept a close eye on everyone in the group. It was a bit of a work-out as the water was a little rough but not too bad.
When we got back to our chairs we met Luz, the massage therapist, who already knew my name! EVERYONE in this place knew my name! She is everything you all said she was...and more. A real professional. I don't like massages but had booked one for my dh who said it was the best one he's ever had. She tried to talk me into a demo that she promised I would like but I wasn't brave enough. I settled down with a drink and enjoyed the sun but then Sol arrived and had her jewelry set up so it was time to go shopping!
Sol...what a sweetheart from Argentina. I liked the necklace she had on but she didn't have any like that for sale because it took a special enamel she can only get in Argentina. She just smiled and said she would sell me that one if I wanted it. It was perfect and I found earrings to go with it. I bought another set as well. All total, we bought many necklaces and earrings in our group. Everyone loved her jewelry. I wore one of the necklaces off the ship and had 3 different ladies comment on how pretty it was. Thanks, Sol for selling me the jewelry off your own neck!
By now, it was lunchtime. We didn't order the lunch inclusive because we wanted to order off the menu. It was great. Wonderful nachos, guacamole, fajitas. Fixed and set up for us before Rafael came to get us on the beach.
After hanging out for the rest of the day, we sadly had to head back to port. After a hug from Carmen and bidding everyone a farewell...we caught a taxi back vowing we would definately return to Playa Uvas again. After 10 trips to Cozumel and visiting many of the beaches and resorts, I can honestly say that was the best experience we've ever had on the island. I'll never get over the fact that everyone knew my name and REMEMBERED it. Even some of the other guys from the dive shop. When I forgot Rafael's name, he joked with me that he remembered mine so I could remember his!
Thanks, Eduardo, Carmen, Luz, Sol, Rafael and all of the wonderful staff. We'll be back in May but will have a 2 and 5 yr. old with us so may not be able to come to Uvas. I don't think I'd be able to relax with them around all the rocks on the beach but I encourage EVERY adult to give Playa Uvas a try. You won't be sorry and we will certainly be back as soon as possible!

We really enjoyed our day on 2/21 at Uvas. We purchased the all inclusive package. First we went on a 45 minute guided clear kayak tour followed by snorkeling. We saw a lot of small fish and coral. After that we were able to relax, drink and eat fajitas. Santos our waiter was very attentive and took great care of us. Most of the staff even remembered my husband and myself by name. Even though there we ship tours going on throughpout the day it never felt crowded because everything was extremely organized. It was a very relaxing day and I highly recommend Playa Uvas. Thanks Eduardo and the Paya Uvas staff- Tracey

We discovered Playa Uvas in. What a treasure! We loved the romantic feel from the linen "fences" blowing in the breeze. I am a cruise travel agent and recommend Playa Uvas to all of my clients who pass through Cozumel. As far as I am concerned, Playa Uvas is THE place to be. The combination of snorkeling, kayaking, and relaxing are phenomenal. We love the pool...not meant for splashing and diving like all the tourist traps, but for lounging with a drink from the bar just steps away! The intimacy of the palm-tree loaded patio struck us immediately. And how much more romantic can you get than laying in a fluttering-canopy-covered lounge bed on a white sand beach looking at crystal blue waters? We are anxiously awaiting our next trip to Playa Uvas!

we finally arrived to Cozumel, last week, and docked at Punta Langosta. It was a rainy day.... like the sun wanted to peek, but there were too many rain clouds.. so we headed to Uvas and decided that even with the rain, we would make it an experience, and it was; we had a great time! We were met by Carmen - Uvas is prettier than I imagined it to be, and I liked the the color of the water - metallic blue, on such a cloudy day. I'm sure now that if we'd gone someplace else that did not have the clear kayaking, the snorkeling and the massage, it would have been a total waste of our day. But that didn't happen at Uvas! We had no sun, but we had LOTS of fun! Mi DH and I reserved the all-inclusive package, we were assigned a locker (which I didn't use and forgot to return the key , sorry Carmen)... we got towels and we met Christian, our guide. Raphael our waiter took us to the beach loungers, which because of our early arrival, and being a cloudy day, were almost empty - there were only 4 more couples. He offered us non-alcoholic drinks, as you cannot drink alcohol before the tours . First we did the kayak tour, and then the snorkeling... there was a little bit of a wind factor, so Christian had to tug us the majority of the tour . Also, I thought the water was going to be cold, like it is in California, but it was very comfortable. After the kayaking, and the swimming, my DH went back for more snorkeling, as right in the front beach there's fish. It was enough for me so I headed for a relaxing massage with Luz, and what a delight! Luz is an expert, I recommend you all get a massage from her.... wow! After the massage, I had to drag my DH from the water to go to the restaurant where we had the fajitas, and my DH, not being a great fan of Mexican food, ordered the Fish Filet. My DH is a good dancer, so, with all the margaritas from the open bar, we decided to give it a try, after all that good food - dance SALSA!!!! there were other couples on the dance floor too, the ones that reserved the same package as we had. I was hoping that after Uvas we could go downtown shopping, but the day just slipped away; I still bought some stuff from Sole . After that, we just picked up our stuff, said good bye to Carmen and the staff (my DH tipped them well ), and returned to the ship in one of the taxis parked outside Uvas. So, whether it rains or shines, Uvas is the place to be! and that's the truth! Thanks Eduardo, Carmen, Christian, Raphael, Luz, and all the staff for a wonderful day!

We were with the group of six couples from the Roanoke, Virginia, area (remind Mario as that is the name on his Tshirt that I gave him-he may want to know that someday) that were there last Thursday. We all had a wonderful time, even with, maybe because of, the rain. My wife had a massage while I was on the snorkel excursion-she hoped it would be over before I returned!--, the lunch was delightful and the drinks were fine, as well. We all enjoyed the kayaks, the beach beds, the Salsa music and dancing.
We will surely suggest this trip to anyone we encounter that is considering a trip to your beautiful city as a "must do" event. Our regards to Santo and all the others.
What a wonderful day!!

We were at Uvas Jan 19th. It was our last stop and we really enjoyed our day here. We were suppose to have thunderstorms all day and when we arrived in Cozumel we were a little concerned that it would be the truth. BUT the clouds started to lighten and by the time we were meeting Carmen we were good to go! There were 4 of us and we got off the ship and into a taxi in record time, we were so excited to check out Uvas. The taxi was $10 for all of us.
When we got there, one other couple was there. We claimed our spot right in the front row and one of the beach beds. We went to order a Bloody Mary and were told that we had to complete our water adventures before we drank, which is a smart idea Just something to remember if you have the all-inclusive packages. Our friends had done the package 1 so they got ready to kayak, while DH and I relaxed and took the beauty in. There kayak tour was only them and their guide, Mario, they said they had a great time. They were more into seeing how fast they could kayak and said they did not see many fish until they dumped bait into the water and all the fish came to eat! But they said they saw a lot of the underwater world and would do it again. They were tired by they time they came back. The plan was to have them kayak, come back, relax and then in the afternoon we would snorkel all together (we had package 3) but due to the no drinking rule, we headed out to snorkel right away. This actually benifited us because it was too early for the cruise groups to be there and once again it was just the four of us and Mario!
At first the snorkeling was not that great, you could see a few fish but mostly the sandy bottom. As we moved around Mario showed us some coral areas and there would be a ton of fish hiding in it (hard to photograph) We were probably not Mario's favorite group. We did not follow him very well and I know by the time we were back at the beach we had exceded our 45 min. The boys got out with Mario but my friend and I satyed in longer and snorkeled in a different area and I have to say I was very impressed. We saw squid, crabs, along with the schools of fish. I have snorkeled several times and I will say it was one of my favorite snorkeling experiences. Trunk Bay in St John's was the only other shore snorkeling I have done and this was much better.
After snorkeling we layed on the beach beds and took a little snooze. when we woke up our lunch was ready. DH had tacos, our friends had the fajaitas, and I had the fresh fillet all was wonderful. He actually had the nachos for an app. and those were amazing! The drinks were great, my favorites were the mango frozen drink and the blue paradise (think that was the name)
We really never noticed the cruise tours too much, except the herd of people walking in getting their snorkel equipment or kayaks and leaving.
All the staff was wonderful. Mario was a great tour guide, Pedro kept us laughing and entertained, and Santino (I think that was his name) was absolutly the best, I can't believe I might have gotten his name wrong. He waited on us all day long we never wanted for anything.
We did buy same necklaces, and I am so disapointed that I did not buy more. She started packing up early so we ran over and got a few but I wish I had gone over earlier so I could have thought it through better! When she said she would be there all day we did not even think that all day ended at 3pm but when you are there early it makes sence it would!
This was the best place we could have chosen and I am so glad we decided to go here (we were planning on going to PB) this was definatly more of what we wanted our trip to Cozumel to be like.
The only drawback was we had such a good time that one of our friends was unable to make it to dinner that night!
Thanks again for the wonderful day and I am telling anyone I know that is going to Cozumel to check you out! We definatly will go back.
Now I am going to try to post a link to our pictures.

Just got back from my cruise. I went to Playa UVas on 1/25/2007.. There were 6 ships in port that day! There were 6 people who came all of us are between (22 yrs. old--26 yr old.) We all got the Beach Pass 1 for $59.00 and it was well worth the $!!
Upon arrival I was greeted by Carmen. She was wonderful! (Hi Carmen!)
We got there at 9:00 a.m. and we were the only ones there! Carmen explained to us that the port was closed and that right now the activities were closed, and that we had to wait. We all said that was find we would wait to see what happens. The day that we arrived there was very windy. It rained early in the morning before we got off the ship. We went down to the beach to check it out and the ocean/beach is amazing! We were greeted by Raphael..(i think?) who promptly took our drink orders and brought my fiance and me a shot of tequila! I also met Eduardo! Hola Eduardo!!! Muchas gracias por todo!
We had some more drinks and we went to check out the store to buy some water shoes. But we found out that they didn't have any there. I spoke with Carmen and told her that they didn't have any water shoes. She thought that they did but they didn't have any. She then asked me if I knew how to drive a motorcycle and I said "no, but my fiance does." She let my fiance and me drive her motorcycle into downtown Cozumel to buy our group some water shoes! It was FUN!! It took us awhile and we finally arrived back to Playa Uvas. When we got back Carmen told us that the port was open and we can do our activites. We did our Kayak first and it was fun! We saw big fish! lol..ahhh I was amazed how the water was soo clear! Very salty too!
After kayaking we took a break and then we went snorkeling. That WAS AMAZING!! I WANT TO GO BACK AND DO IT AGAIN! LOL Again, I was surprised to see that the water was so clear. Our group saw tons of fish. I saw a couple of small fishies too and coral too. Our guide was pulling two people! He is a very strong man!
When snorkeling was over we had our lunch which was fajitas(they were great!) We drank some more and we checked out the glass fusion jewelery that this lady sells. I got 2 necklaces one pair of earings...I love them! She makes all of these necklaces, key chains, earings, ashtrays, etc by hand! Very nice lady. Another couple got some henna tattoos for $10.00!
We had some more drinks and it was time for us to leave. I highly recommend Playa Uvas to anyone. Their service is outstanding! Our waiter made sure we were happy with what we got and made sure we had our refills! Everyone at Playa Uvas greeted us and were were very nice to us. Their restrooms are kept well maintained which is very important to me! Their beach was very clean. The entrance to the beach is kinda rocky but I saw an area that was not rocky, and if you wanted to you could walk into the ocean through that entrance.
My crew and me felt like queens and kings that day. Even though there were other people there we felt like the only ones there! We all enjoyed Playa Uvas and I can't wait to go back!

My husband and I visited with you last week when our NCL cruise was in port. We took your clear kayak and snorkel trip with a group from our ship. Everything about our visit was perfect. Christian met us at the port, explained our day and took care of everything. We had the most wonderful time with both the kayaking and the snorkeling!!! The real icing on the cake, was finding out that you had a massage therapist right on the beach! There are not enough words to describe how wonderful Luz Ortiz is!!!! We have never had a better massage in our lives and we get massage therapy at home every week. She was very professional, very kind and very good. We wanted to bring her home with us. Thank you so much for such a great day. All of the people who worked that day were exceptionally kind and went out of their way to be helpful. We can’t wait to come back!

our whole group had a wonderful day at Playa Uvas last Thurs. Jan.11th. Even tho there were 9 ships in port that day, we had no trouble getting a taxi to Playa. They charged us $20 for a van, there were 6 of us. Took just a few minutes to get there and we were one of the first groups. Carmen was expecting us and checked us all in then showed us around and introduced us to the wait staff and snorkel guides. We decided to snorkel around 1030 and joined another group. You walk down the beach quite a distance then enter the water to snorkel. If you have your own tube, take it. Theirs are the plain no purge type. You will want water shoes as the shore is quite rocky. They take your shoes and sunglasses and whatever else you wear on your trek down the beach and put them into a plastic bag and into the kayak that one of the guides follows in. You get them back when you return. One guide was in the water with us and one in the kayak which made it easy for them to keep track of all of us, which is great for novice snorkelers. I kept going further out then the rest following fish and the guide made me return to the group, which I understand perfectly. Most of my group snorkeled on our own a couple more times while we were there. I saw lots of fish and some barracuda. Luckily no jelly fish which i heard people who went to another resort saw. Our bartender was super fantastic and really watched to see if our glass was getting low. The all inclusive is definetly the way to go. One of our group went scuba diving and says it was wonderful They even went through some caves which he had never done before. In case you are wondering, you don't have to be certified to dive in Mexico but you had to know how and do the refresher diving Padi request when you dont have the c-card. We had fajitas for lunch and they were yummy! Of all the drinks we had,the Miami Vice was our favorite. It was definetly worth our money and the best day we had on the cruise. Thanks Eduardo! and the rest of the crew at Playa Uvas! |

Thanks for the memories!
Playa Uvas was one of the best parts of my recent western-Caribbean
cruise. Though the clear "kayak" (really more like a canoe or coracle)
was not as enchanting on the cloudy day I was there as it may have been
on a sunny day, the snorkeling was all that I had hoped for.
However, the chief reason I would be certain to visit Playa Uvas on any
future trip to Cozumel is the people who made the whole experience such
a delight! From the guy who met us at the dock and guided us at sea, to
the people who helped allocate the equipment, steady us in and out of
the boats, and serve refreshments--everyone was cheerful and friendly.
There are many, many naturally beautiful places for outdoor adventures
in the Caribbean, but very few who make their visitors feel so much at
home as the people at Playa Uvas.
Thank you!

I visited Playa Uvas on Dec/14 with my DH and three friends. Our ages range from 25-35, and we are more of a "calm" group than a "party" group. We all thoroughly enjoyed the day there. For several of us, it was the highlight of the entire trip.
Carmen greeted us by name. She then proceeded to personally introduce us to each member of the staff! I could tell they were honestly grateful for our business.
All five members of my group reserved the clear kayak tour and two of us (including myself) also reserved the snorkel tour. we were the first visitors to arrive at the beach. (It was a little before 9am.) We were informed that the first group of kayakers was going to be fairly large (about 30 people), so one of the guides offered to take my group on a personal tour with just the five of us! I was very impressed with this, and, of course, we took him up on his offer.
We all thought the kayaks were really cool! We saw many fish (including an eel) and some nice coral. The guides intentionally took the group directly over coral and areas where fish can regularly be found. I was pleased with how much you could actually see through the kayak. (Be careful, though. There is a tendency to lean over when you see something cool - that's not a good idea when you're in a kayak!) One member of my group was having significant problems paddling, so the assistant guide hooked both kayaks together with a rope, which resulted in the guide pulling the second kayak.
Immediately after kayaking, the same guide took my friend and I on our snokeling tour. I have snorkeled previously, but I would still consider myself a beginner. I don't have too many other sites to compare this to, but I was very pleased with the variety of fish we saw. I even saw a small sting ray and a couple barracudas! I've visited several locations throughout the caribbean, and this was some of the clearest water I've ever seen.
As for the land facilities, everything was clean and well cared for (including the bathrooms). We loved the beach beds! Lunch was delicious, and I am a picky eater. Rafael was our server for the day, and he was wonderful! If we wanted to, we could've stayed in our chairs all day long. He brought everything to us, and he checked in with us regularly.
Regarding the entrance to the water, it's true that there is not a sandy entrance. I found this to be a positive thing, though, because by the time I was in the water above my ankles, I was already seeing tropical fish. That certainly wouldn't happen at your typical sandy beach! My DH had knee surgery in September, and he was able to get in and out of the water just fine. If you plan to come with very small children, you will probably want to carry them into the water. There's rough rock where the waves hit, but after the first couple steps, there is flat rock which we had no problems walking on. I was impressed with the snorkeling directly in front of the beach area, too. As I said, you only had to take a few steps and there were fish. I certainly wouldn't let the rocks stop you from visiting this place. The beauty and the service far outweigh having to walk over a couple rocks!

Was at Playa Uvas on Thursday (Nov 30). We arrived around 9:00. Carmen introduced us to the staff who would be waiting on us and giving us our snorkling tour. We spent some time lying on the beach and then did the 45 minute snorkeling tour. It was fantastic!!!!! I saw four barracudas, beautiful colorful fish, and beautiful colored sea fans. Be sure to take an underwater camera.
We had great shrimp nachos and shrimp quesadillas for lunch and drinks all day long. We had a great time and the place is sooooo clean with nice landscaping. They have lockers you can rent for $2.00 and a $5.00 refundable deposit. They also had a small fresh water pool.
Taxi to and from the pier was $10.00 each way (that is for the taxi (up to 4 people) not each person).
We had such a great time we will go there again on our next visit to Cozumel.
Thanks Carmen and staff for making it such a great day!!

My husband and I had such a great time at Playa Uvas, we only wish we could have stayed longer but we had to get back to our cruise ship! The staff was friendly, the food and drinks were great and the snorkeling and clear kayaking were so much fun, it is something we will never forget and would recommend Playa Uvas to anyone planning to go to Cozumel!

We arrived on the Carnival Conquest. We got a cab and went directly to Playa Uvas. Immediately upon arriving, I was very impressed by the condition of the property. We have been to many of the beach clubs in Cozumel, but this was by far the prettiest yet. The grounds were well kept and the employees were very friendly. We had pre-booked a two tank boat dive for me and a massage for the wife. When we arrived I realized I had left my copy of our confirmation on the boat. No problem, they did not need to see it, they had our reservation in their book.
I got set up for my dive and the wife and another couple that were with us, took advantage of the massage and the facilities. There are many large white padded couch type of loungers. The beach was immaculate and very clean. My wife told me that the massage was very good. There were a lot of see thru ocean kayaks.
My dive boat arrived and I went out for my two tank dive. The boat was from another dive operator (Scuba Caribe) and was well run. Our first dive was deep. I went to 96 feet along the wall. Lots of good coral at Palancar Caves. The second dive was at Paradise Reef. At the end of the second dive we observed 3 black tip reef sharks and I was able to get close enough to get some fairly nice photos of them using my dive camera.
Upon return to the Beech Club, I ate some of the best food that I have had while in Cozumel. The food and drinks were very good. Overall I would highly recommend Playa Uvas as a place to enjoy the day in Cozumel. I would not recommend the ships tours to Playa Uvas as you only get to stay at the beech club for about 1-2 hours. My wife said that while I was diving several ships excursions arrived and stayed for an hour or so and then left to get back to the boat. I don’t believe that would be enough time to really enjoy the place. Go there and stay the entire day and you won’t be disappointed.
I was very happy that we had booked the day at Playa Uvas and will go back there next time we visit Cozumel.

Eduardo,
I just wanted to send a personal thank you for the wonderful time we had at
Uvas. Everything was even more great than we could have imagined. Your staff
is amazing and made us feel welcome the entire time. Carmen made sure
everyone knew who we were and made sure they knew to take care of us. She
also said you called to check on us, which is such a wonderful gesture that
showed you truly care about your customers as much as every single person on
the staff cares.
We had so many people in our group and very few had ever snorkled before so
it was a little scary at first but your staff promised we would be fine and
we were more than fine. It was amazing and 100% safe!!!
Being the one who arranged this, I was definately nervous since I felt if
anyone was dissapointed it would be my fault. Well there was absolutely no
disaapointment from anyone and out of 16 people that is great odds. There is
so much to do that there is no room for dissapointment. Some snorkled, some
drank, some played on the beach, some got tatoos, some got massages, and of
course everyone ate the great food!
What a great place to go!! You should be very proud of what a great place
you work for! We will be back and we will tell everone we know, the only
place to go is Uvas! Thank you again for everything!

My wife and I enjoyed our visit to Playa Uva. The tour clear Kayaking Paco took us on was very nice. And in spite of some heavy rain we had a good day. We enjoyed the refreshments and personal attention. Next time we make it to Cozumel I hope to try the Discover Scuba and snorkel some more around the Uva. And it would be nice to get a massage in the sun.... Only God knows when or if that will be.
Our Daughter really liked her gift of the Kiln fired glass earrings and necklace the young lady on the beach made. The Orange ones she made that my wife bought for herself matched her dress very nicely too.
Adios

We visited Playa Uvas for several hours on Saturday, May 27th. I will post photos and a review asap. This was my 9th visit to Cozumel, so I am familiar with the available beach clubs there. My last visit was 2 months ago. Playa Uvas was a delightful departure from the clubs I've visited in the past. Gorgeous grounds, cushy teak lounge chairs with thick pads, beach beds with thick mattresses, outstanding staff who are attentive to your every need without being pushy, plenty of water related activities, great food and drinks, on-site store... this thread discusses many aspects of playa uvas http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=349494

We were there for the first time on Dec. 9 and had a great time. We sat at a table right on the beach, beautiful view. We rented snorkle equipment and a locker. We tried the mango margarita, which was delicious. Then we found the pool, which was really refreshing. All in all, a great morning. |
